In Portugal, hairdressing salons and beauty parlours are frequented for personal care, relaxation and social interaction. According to Teixeira (2017), the hairdressing profession raises clients' self-esteem and offers personal and social support. However, in order to improve service quality and financial sustainability, the need for specific higher education courses has been identified. The hairdressing salon and beauty parlour sector is essential for personal care and social interaction. Despite the sector's fundamental role in improving clients' self-esteem and promoting social connection, there are many significant challenges facing this sector. These include a lack of adequate training, which can negatively affect the quality and financial health of the business.
The hairdressing salon and beauty parlour sector in Portugal is dependent on technical courses or vocational training, which reveals a lack of specific higher education courses for professionals in the sector. This shortage can affect the quality of the services provided and the financial sustainability of companies, as poorly trained professionals cannot manage resources efficiently, which can lead to a lack of training.
The proposed intervention is a strategy to improve the problem identified. Based on detailed analysis and methods for evaluating results, best practices were proposed in order to innovate and perfect sustainable and long-lasting improvement techniques to improve the sector's management and services.
The research identified that many hairdressing salons and beauty parlours face significant financial sustainability challenges. The result highlighted the importance of adequate professional training, as there is a lack of specific higher education courses for the sector, which can have a negative impact on service quality and financial sustainability, as it can negatively influence innovation and the efficient management of resources.
This study identifies that the use of innovative technologies can significantly help the financial and operational management of hairdressing salons and beauty parlours. As well as this innovation helping to solve specific challenges in the sector, it also helps to promote social inclusion by facilitating access to quality services that strengthen the establishment's economic sustainability.
