Reumo

Environmental scanning is a technique used by companies to collect data from different information sources in the competitive landscape. While this process is unique in each organization, literature has tried to understand how this process occur and its outcome.
This paper aims to identify how literature studied the environmental scanning process during last decade (2010-2019) in order to understand what themes are explored and if the literature has changed during these years, and more specifically, this paper aims to identify what knowledge was constructed regarding environmental scanning and information sources during this time period
Environmental scanning activities help organizations to adapt their products and services to customer preferences in the ever-changing business environment (Nyuur et al., 2015). ES refers to the act of actively monitoring the environment in order to learn, get data, and transform it into information and knowledge that can improve and guide the decision-making process for answering effectively to those changes (Choo, 2001).
In last years, a lot of studies about technological aspects and new techniques regarding ES emerged but the main focus has changed during the decade.Studies use different approaches to analyse the relationship between information sources and the organization environment
The main findings evidenced that mainly in the last years, more emphasis was placed on researches relating environmental scanning with the use of new technologies, with implications for strategic process and content. In addition, we showed that information sources, firm size and the industry sector shape the environmental scanning practices of companies. The literature also point environmental scanning can be used as a tool for companies to manage uncertainty in its environment.
