Resumo

Introdução

Platformization has become a key feature of contemporary labor markets, especially in transportation and delivery services. Although promoted as a model of flexibility and innovation, this process often results in the erosion of labor rights, lack of social protection, and increased worker vulnerability (Abílio et al., 2021; Magaldi et al., 2024). This integrative review analyzes studies from 2020 to 2025 to explore how digital platforms reshape work relations and deepen precariousness in the digital economy.

Problema de Pesquisa e Objetivo

This study investigates how platformization impacts labor rights and employment structures. The guiding question is: “What are the current academic discussions on the precariousness and platformization of work, considering their effects on working conditions and labor relations?” The objective is to identify the risks workers face in digital platforms and to assess the literature’s contribution to regulatory debates, with emphasis on strategies to reduce social inequality and labor instability.

Fundamentação Teórica

The literature shows that platform work promotes a false sense of autonomy while enforcing algorithmic surveillance (Woodcock & Graham, 2024). Workers are treated as independent contractors and denied basic protections such as social security and paid leave (Carelli & Andrade, 2023). This phenomenon, often referred to as “uberization” (Rodrigues & Lucca, 2024), reflects a capitalist logic that uses technology not to empower, but to intensify exploitation and control (Carneiro et al., 2023; Tonelo et al., 2022).

Discussão

The review of 18 articles—mostly from high-impact journals—reveals consistent evidence of labor precariousness in platform work. Workers face unstable income, algorithmic management, and absence of institutional support (Grohmann et al., 2021; Bedoya et al., 2024). Although platforms promote flexibility, this often hides structural inequalities and exploitation (Caminhas, 2023). Some studies highlight collective resistance and digital mobilization as emerging strategies of defense (Silva & Maia, 2024).

Conclusão

Platformization has transformed labor dynamics, intensifying instability and social vulnerability. Literature reveals a loss of rights, income insecurity, and a lack of legal protection for platform workers (Rodrigues & Lucca, 2024; Machado & Zanoni, 2022). Although digital platforms offer innovation, they often circumvent labor laws. Addressing these challenges requires urgent regulation that combines technological development with inclusive and protective labor policies adapted to the digital context.

Contribuição / Impacto

This review contributes by systematizing academic production on platform labor and identifying gaps in legal protection. It supports the formulation of public policies and regulatory frameworks to ensure equity and social justice. The findings emphasize that technological innovation must not justify labor exploitation. Instead, platforms must be shaped by human-centered approaches that protect worker dignity and enable collective organization (Abílio et al., 2021; Franco et al., 2023).
