Reumo

In the Management and Information Systems literature, little has been written regarding how people perceive, react and deal with Big Data, that is, the cognitive, affective, and behavioral factors involved. Furthermore, there is still a need to emphasize the importance of the individual's body of knowledge and skills in working with this deluge of data.
This study analyzes how the Management and Information Systems literature has investigated the relationships between Overload, Anxiety, Fatigue, Avoidance Behavior, and Literacy to develop a preliminary research model in the Big Data context to be tested in future studies.
We define the concepts of Cognitive Overload, Anxiety, Cognitive Fatigue, and Avoidance Behavior, and relate them to the Big Data context. We also define the concept of Data Literacy.
Our Systematic Literature Review identified 93 articles for analysis. We found nine direct associations between Overload, Anxiety, Fatigue, Avoidance Behavior, and Literacy. Thus, we developed a preliminary research model to investigate how Cognitive Overload, Anxiety, Cognitive Fatigue, Avoidance Behavior, and Data Literacy are related in the Big Data context.
We identified that most of the studies that discussed the relationships between Overload, Anxiety, Fatigue, Avoidance Behavior, and Literacy did not focus on the Big Data context, but on information (e.g., Information Overload, Information Anxiety, Information Avoidance Behavior) and Covid-19 pandemic and use of social networks. However, these studies served as a basis for us to appropriate their theoretical backgrounds and adapt them to develop a model to understand Cognitive Overload, Anxiety, Fatigue, Avoidance, and Data Literacy in the Big Data context.
